The content on Healing With Sunita is for general education and wellbeing. Sound healing, meditation, yoga and chakra practices can support relaxation, but they do not diagnose, treat or cure any illness, and they are not a substitute for professional medical or mental health care.
In short
- These practices support relaxation and wellbeing. They are not medical treatment.
- Do not stop or change any treatment or medication because of something you read here.
- If you have a health condition, are pregnant or have an implanted device, speak with your doctor first.
- In an emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately.
1. Not medical advice
Sunita Poudel is a certified sound healer and Reiki Level 1 practitioner. She is not a medical doctor, psychologist or licensed therapist. Nothing on this website is medical, psychological or professional health advice.
Always ask a qualified health professional about any medical condition, symptom or treatment. Never ignore professional advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you read on this website.
2. Who should take extra care
Speak with your doctor before trying sound healing, sound massage or strong breathing practices if you:
- are pregnant, especially before placing singing bowls on or near the body
- have a pacemaker or another implanted electronic or metal device
- have epilepsy or a seizure disorder
- have had recent surgery, or have a blood clot, open wounds or inflammation
- have tinnitus, hearing difficulties or sensitivity to sound
- live with a serious mental health condition, trauma or severe anxiety
Stop any practice that causes discomfort, dizziness, pain or distress.
3. Practising safely at home
- Keep the volume gentle, and never strike a bowl, gong or tingsha close to anyone’s ears.
- Do not place bowls on the head, face, or on areas that are injured or sensitive.
- Supervise children, and keep pets free to leave the room.
- Practise breathing exercises sitting or lying down, and return to normal breathing if you feel light-headed.
- After deep relaxation, take a few minutes before driving or using machinery.
4. Tradition and research
Many practices here, such as the chakras, mantras, mudras and chakra note pairings, come from Himalayan, Buddhist, Hindu and yoga traditions. We describe them as traditions and say so clearly. They are not scientifically proven facts.
Where scientific research exists, for example on sound, relaxation and meditation, we cite it. Research in this area is still developing, and results from small or early studies should be read with care.
5. Mental health and crisis support
Sound and meditation can be calming, but they are not a replacement for mental health care. If you are struggling, please reach out to a doctor, a counsellor or someone you trust.
If you are in crisis or think you may harm yourself, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line in your country now. In the United States, you can call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).
6. Individual experiences vary
Every person responds to sound differently. Experiences described on this website, including Sunita’s session notes, are personal and anonymous. They are not promises of any result.
7. Our relationship with Dharma Tool
Sunita Poudel is a co-founder of Dharma Tool, which sells Tibetan singing bowls and ritual instruments. Some articles link to Dharma Tool products and resources. We only recommend instruments we believe are genuinely useful for practice. You never need to buy anything to follow the practices on this website.
8. Accuracy and responsibility
We work to keep our content accurate and up to date, and each article shows when it was last reviewed. We cannot guarantee that every detail is complete or current.
You are responsible for how you use the information on this website. To the extent allowed by law, Healing With Sunita and Sunita Poudel are not liable for any loss or harm arising from its use.
